OUTSIDE'S INSIDES ON THE OUTSIDE - ATLAS BLACK BOX THEATER, BOULDER, CO
A QUEER TRADITION
Installation by Kenzie Sitterud
Performance by Laura Ann Samuelson
Presented at the Denver Art Museum as part of SIT. STAND. PLAY : Kenzie Sitterud's Untitled Final Fridays Creative Takeover
Installation for 15’ x 15’ foot room, steel, disassembled fans, egg beater, motors, electric razor, extension cord/power strip - installation
Deconstructed objects of the everyday propel irregular metal structures into ongoing unwieldy spiraling motion. The installation amplifies polyrhythm within the poetics of mechanization, and investigates the life cycle of repurposing use. April 2019.
8’ x 8’, disposable work gloves, plaster, air duct panels
Plaster was poured into 200+ disposable work gloves whose form slides between representations of the human hand and anthropomorphic shapes. The sculpture depicts the gloves in motion, cascading, clamoring, and crawling across the metal barriers that compartmentalize them. The project investigates excess and individual will in proximity with others, and the momentum of a crowd heading multiple directions.
Created and Performed with Ondine Geary at 303 Project Space in Kenzie Sitterud's Installation The Bedroom, and at Counterpath Press as part of the Un/Seen Festival. Video excerpt available on Video Links page.
